Who am I?

My name is Lauren Barrick, and I am running for NC House in District 96 as an unaffiliated candidate because I believe voters deserve real choices and real representation.

I am not a career politician. I am someone who saw the gaps in our system and decided to step forward instead of waiting for permission. Running unaffiliated means building this campaign from the ground up, without party backing or a built in machine. It also means listening closely, learning in real time, and being honest about where we are in the process.

Right now, this campaign is focused on something very simple and very important. Ballot access. Before any conversation about platforms or policy, North Carolina requires unaffiliated candidates to collect handwritten signatures from registered voters in District 96. Signing does not cost anything and does not commit anyone to a vote. It simply ensures that voters have a choice on the ballot in November.

This campaign is being built by everyday people who believe participation matters. We are figuring things out together, asking questions when we do not know the answers, and choosing transparency over polish. I believe democracy works best when more people feel invited into the process, not shut out by it.

If you are here, curious, supportive, or simply interested in learning more, I am grateful. This is how real campaigns start. With people showing up.

Core Commitments

I am running as an unaffiliated candidate because I believe representation should be rooted in honesty, accountability, and real participation. These commitments guide how I am building this campaign and how I intend to serve.

Transparency

I am committed to being honest about where we are, what I know, and what I am still learning. I believe voters deserve clarity, not spin. Questions are welcome, and I will do my best to answer them plainly.

Access and Participation

I believe democracy works best when people feel invited into the process. My campaign is focused on expanding access, starting with ballot access, and making civic participation feel possible for everyday people.

Listen Before Leading

I believe leadership starts with listening. I am committed to learning from the people in my community, taking lived experiences seriously, and staying open to perspectives that challenge me.

Independence

Running unaffiliated means I am not guided by party pressure or special interests. My decisions will be based on what serves the people of District 96, not what is politically convenient.

Respect for the Process

I am committed to doing things the right way. That means following the rules, respecting voters’ time and choices, and treating everyone involved with care and integrity.
